In India, diabetes and its complications are responsible for over 1 million deaths annually. This significant mortality rate is largely attributed to mismanagement factors such as late diagnosis, inadequate treatment, and poor long-term control of the disease.
India has one of the largest populations of people with diabetes globally, with approximately 77 million adults affected. Alarmingly, more than 50% of these individuals are unaware of their diabetic status, leading to health complications if not detected and treated early.
The high mortality rate is further exacerbated by the fact that only about 15.7% of those diagnosed with diabetes have their condition under control.
Addressing this issue requires a multifaceted approach, including increasing public awareness, improving access to healthcare services, and implementing effective management strategies to ensure early detection and proper treatment of diabetes.
